WGN AMERICA PARTNERS WITH THE BLACKHOUSE FOUNDATION DURING THE 2016 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL, IN CELEBRATION OF ‘UNDERGROUND,’ THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD ESCAPE THRILLER, FROM EXECUTIVE PRODUCER JOHN LEGEND AND CREATORS MISHA GREEN AND JOE POKASKI
The event took place at Blackhouse’s Sundance headquarters located at the Buona Vita Restaurant, 804 Main Street, Park City, the exclusive “clips and conversation” panel event featured “Underground” executive producer John Legend, along with the cast and creative team from the hotly anticipated escape thriller set to premiere Wednesday, March 9 (10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on WGN America.
The Underground panel was greeted with wild enthusiasm at The 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Telling a story not told before about the Underground slavery events. In fact many were turned away from the panels presentation. This is a story which is not about the occupation, but the revolution!
The cast embraced this story as personal. The writing for the script was vivid and visceral. Moreover, it was not focused solely on victimization. The humanizing of each character is consistently displayed ( they are all flawed, but get their chance at redemption). To restore the place in history of slaves that were really American heroes.
The series is bold, audacious and creates a real sense of urgency, while being soulful and honest.
